LDU Logic Board
The Openinverter LDU logic board allows you to control a Tesla Large Drive Unit (LDU) for use in EV conversions and custom electric vehicles. It will NOT work in a Tesla vehicle.
All components and connectors are included. The board has been flashed with the latest firmware and parameters and has been tested. Once installed, you can access the inverter parameters via an easy-to-use web interface to tune the motor for your application.
Openinverter boards include an onboard ~5kW charging feature, so you don't need to buy and integrate a separate onboard charger if fast charging is not required. However, this advanced feature should only be implemented by trained professionals as it requires working with high voltage.
NOTE: Installation is not for beginners! It requires fundamental electronics knowledge, and soldering the surface-mount connectors requires specialized equipment like a hot air station. If you prefer, we can solder all the connectors for you for an extra fee. Choose your desired options below.

Fully Soldered Option
The included SMD connectors for the logic board have very small legs that should ideally be soldered using a hot air station and solder paste for the best results. If you don’t have the necessary equipment or prefer to skip this step, we can solder them for you—just select the corresponding option below!
LDU Wiring Harness Option
Fully labeled wiring harness for Tesla Large Drive Unit (LDU) Openinverter board. TE AMPSEAL 23-pin Connector with 4-foot (1.2 meter) pigtail made from high-quality 18 AWG silicone wire and 4-core shielded cable for the integrated encoder harness. Color-coded and explicitly labeled for Openinverter logic board pinout.
Coolant Delete Options
The LDU is awesome, but the rotor seal is notorious for eventually leaking and damaging the motor. Aftermarket hot rodders figured out how to modify the LDU to eliminate this problem and significantly improve reliability without impacting performance in all but the most extreme scenarios. This “coolant delete” mod has been so successful that even Tesla has implemented the same fix in their most recent LDU versions. Today there are many options to choose from:
The Steel Cap is the most cost-effective option but requires the most labor-intensive installation. To use it, you must modify your stock coolant manifold by removing the rotor seal and aluminum coolant tube. The coolant tube must be carefully cut or pried off. Once removed, the cap is pressed into place. It is crucial to use the (included) green sleeve retaining compound during installation to prevent the cap from loosening over time. Failure to do so could result in the cap popping out, flooding the motor with coolant, and causing severe damage.
All other Coolant Delete Manifold options offer a complete replacement for the stock coolant manifold, entirely eliminating the risk of coolant entering the rotor area. These options are designed as direct bolt-on replacements, significantly reducing installation effort and ensuring a secure, hassle-free fit.
The QCCharge Coolant Delete Performance manifold offers a unique advantage: it allows you to replace the stock ethylene glycol-based rotor coolant with Dexron VI or 212B gearbox oil. These fluids are non-conductive and harmless in the event of a rotor seal leak, providing added reliability. This option is specifically designed for extreme performance applications where maximum cooling is essential.
Contactor Options
Used/refurbished Kilovac EV200AAANA high voltage contactors. These contactors feature an economizer and can handle 500 amps and up to 900vdc. Contactors show signs of use and/or refurbishment but have been tested and confirmed to be in good working condition. These units are very expensive new, so you are saving a LOT with these refurbished ones.
Voltage (Max) (VDC): 900
Coil Voltage Rating (VDC): 9 – 36
Coil Resistance (Ω): 3.14
Contact Switching Voltage (Max) : 900
Contact Current Rating (A): 500
